CTAL: Behind the Frontline of COVID-19
January 14 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Behind the frontlines, in the labs, medical offices and universities across the world an army of people searches for answers. People like Dr. Amy Greer. What are the unique and challenging characteristics that make emerging infectious diseases so difficult to understand? How is mathematics helping these researchers dissect the dynamics of COVID-19, and what do we need to understand about the virus transmission to form a successful response and protect ourselves. These are the silent heroes of our times.
Dr. Greer’s research program explores the introduction, spread, dynamics, and control of infectious diseases in populations. She integrates empirical data with mathematical models to test the mechanisms leading to the epidemic spread of pathogens and identify optimal intervention strategies.
Dr. Greer holds a Canada Research Chair in Population Disease Modeling and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Medicine at the University of Guelph. Dr. Greer has previously held scientific positions in the Centre for Communicable Diseases and Infection Control at the Public Health Agency of Canada.
